What are the characteristics of yin and yang?
Yin-Yang Theory teaches that everything is a product of two principles, Yin is considered weak, female and destructive, while yang is considered strong, male and creative. The interaction between these two principles produces the five elements.

They define each other. Neither can exist without the other. There would be no male without female. Without day, there would be no night.

Yang is a part of the Taoist concept of the balanced and harmonized energies in nature, with the other part being it's opposite: yin. The characteristics of yang include rapid, energetic, male, assertive, light, obvious, heavenly and external.
Yin/Yang: Two halves that mutually form the wholeness of Qi. The mixing of the two energies makes life possible. When life-force energy is appropriately balanced between Yin and Yang, it flows smoothly maintaining and promoting a good state of physical and emotional health.
